are you asking what HARDWARE you need to run a CS server?

or are you asking for directions on how to actually set up a CS to run as a server?

I've actually been thinking about this same thing. Your response would help out in us both getting what we want! :)

If anyone wants to know, I've got a RH server on an abitKT7-R, duron 700@800, 384mb pc133, and TONS of hd space.

Depends on your connection speed and number of players mostly. With that hardware, you're looking at an 8 player server at best with cable/dsl connect.

Is it limited to that due to my hardware, or the broadband connection? I'm more lookin to do a local server. No online playing involved.

It's the connection. If you just want a LAN you could probably have 32 players running. I've got a similar system on the Net and it's takes about 10-14 with not alot of lag.

When I ran my Lan Parties, "Lan Smackdown" I ran a dual PII 350 system. It could handle two full 32 player games. It wouldn't lag unless someone tried to transfer a large file over the network. It only had a Ultra DMA 33 controller installed in it. Hope this info helps out.
