How do I look up the owner of a Internet address?

MplsBob

My security software keeps warning me "The fireall has blocked Internet access to your computer(FTP) from 65.111.165.140(TCP Port 37797) (TCP Flags: S).

How do I look up the owner of 65.111.165.140?

Anyone have any observations to make regarding this warning?

Don't worry about it. It's part of the Internet Noise. There is constant scanning to look for open computers/ports.

You are experiencing the Post Traumatic Firewall Log Viewing Disorder.

Every one's log contains many entries like this, it is usually part of Internet noise.

As an example in your case.

The range of IPs from 65.111.165.1 to 65.111.165.255 is owned by Infolink Information Services Inc.

You can email, or write to them and complain about it.

Might be that one of their customers is violating his TOS.

However, they would divulge which one of their customers was using the IP at the time.

You would need a court order to get it.

So get your checkbook, hire a lawyer, and Go for it (Just Kidding).

Thanks to you all for your good responses!
