How do i locate my Windows XP PRODUCT/Serial Key using RegEdit?

I know i can use a program called VIEWKEYXP to locate my SERIAL/PRODUCT KEY # on my Windows XP platform...

But i wanna do it the hard way.. do you guys know how i can find it using RegEdit or some other unconventional way?

Why, pull out your cd case/folder and look on the back of it, unless you don't happen to "have" one of these cases.......

Don't mess around with your registry. Usually ends up messing up your OS and losing all your pr0n unless you have raid for backup.

During the installation of Windows XP Professional, you are prompted to enter a 25 digit Windows XP Product Key, which Windows XP promptly converts it into the system's product ID. Because of security concerns about piracy, Microsoft does not provide a tool that allows you to view the Product Key (or CD Key) that was used to install the operating system.

search "pid3" in regedit?

edit: well mine was in hklm\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\setup\oobe\temp

yup, i've been down this road before... my mom through out the sticker that came with my OEM copy of XP pro before i could put it someplace, so i had to go by another copy :(. Amzingly, two oem copies are still 1/2 the price of ONE retail copy of XP pro o_O

please tune ure sarcasm meter. Obviously he can copy the program onto cd/disk and go to the local pc room....

The key isn't stored in any plain, readable form...you must use one of those key viewers which can convert it back to the original key.
