How do I know when I need to upgrade Mob?

Current system:
EPOX 8k7a
Athlon XP 220+
Crucial 512 MB PC2100
ATI Radeon 7000 64 MB
40 GB WD 7200

I'm going to upgrade my video card, likely to a Radeon 9700, and also get a bigger HD. MY board only supports 4X AGP, USB1.1, and is only rated for 133 MHz FSB. I've already put a faster CPU than the board was originally tested for. Am I good with this board, or is it time to upgrade?

I would get the video card, then see how happy you are with the overall performance. I think the nForce2 upgrade from the old 761 chipset would make a very noticeable difference, but it might not be enough, to you, to justify the cost. If you can spare the money without difficulty, I'd definitely do it. An alternative is the new KT-600 chipset, which is cheaper, but in the same league. I'm wringing all I can out of my KT-333, which has made me happy because it has been problem-free.

Wait until you need to buy a new mobo to support a newer chip you intend to buy. That way it'll be cheaper and better - and you can then migrate the newer video card and other components over.

Does anyone know if this board (8k7a) will support faster RAM than 2100?
