How do i know my IBM Deskstar 45gig GXP75 is working?

Well i have a Abit KT7-Raid... and i couldn't get the IBM to be reconized in bios... what could be my problem? I think it's defected... what do you think? When i put the harddrive near my ears it sounded like the pin was jam... it had a really really quiet nosice
