How do I know it's iPod 30GB 5.5 generation and not 5.0?

I am looking for the iPod 30GB 5.5th generation (the update to the 5th generation iPod). How do we tell the difference when buying online such as ebay or craigslist?

Might be in the wrong forum. Please move to Gadgets Gear & Phones.

iPod questions are fine here.

fr is correct. If it has search functionality, it is a 5.5G. When buying one off eBay, I don't think there would be a way to tell unless it is specified by the seller.

You could ask the seller to send you some sort of verified picture showing the search option on the screen. Other than that there is no way externally to tell that I know of.

Google reports that the serial number is an indicator, if it's available.

Also, the Apple part numbers are different. For iPod 5G, you have:
MA002LL/A (30GB white)
MA146LL/A (30GB black)

For 5.5G, it's:
MA444LL/A (30GB white)
MA446LL/A (30GB black)
