How do I know if my video card has PCI Express slots?

Refer to my post about the ATI Radeon9800Pro if you need information on my motherboard.

I am wondering how I can find out if my motherboard supports PCI Express

I am also wondering what the difference is between PCI and PCI Express.

you motherboard doesnt have pci express. it has agp. therefore, you have to get an agp video card. the 9800 pro is agp, so thats ok. those should work together well. only newer boards have pci express. yours is kinda old. anyway, pci is a slot that most add-on cards use, such as a sound card or network card. video cards used to use pci, but then they invented agp, which is a new slot that gives more bandwidth. just recently, they invented pci express, which gives twice the bandwidth of agp. however, most people say that it doesnt increase performance at all.

And it costs just the same as AGP mobos/video cards. AND you know all future motherboards will be PCI Express. AND you know that next gen high end cards will be PCI Express as well.

If you are building a new computer now, going with PCIe is a no brainer. Upgrade questions from people, like myself, who have AGP cards and mobos, need to be decided on a case by case basis.

At the moment, my 3.4E P4 and 6800GT can run everything I throw at them. However, once I start seeing problems running at the native 1680x1050 res of my widescreen LCD, then I'll be doing a major upgrade. Likely, it will be at the R580 and GF 8 series generation. 🙂
