I just recently picked up a WD 500gb External 7200 RPM. Data transfer for 2gb took over 8 minutes, that just doesn't sound right. Any ideas?

Have you tried it on all the different USB ports on your computer?

EDIT: Edited for spelling.

Just gave that a shot too, no difference from what I could see

it's a Dell Inspiron 9300 if it makes a difference with anything

I definitely can't be getting USB 2.0 speeds, can someone understand this? I have a thousand different things listed and only one is ENHANCED

Timed every single USB port on a 300 mb file and it took ~1 minute and 10 seconds

PIC HERE

Uninstall all USB entries there and then reboot.

having a load of problems now. The drivers aren't reinstalling themselves and for some reason, it's having trouble finding them. I'm going to download the SP2 update in hope of it fixing it. It says I do not have any hi-speed USB connections available

Oo your using the watercolor ergonomic VS heh I have it when I feel the need for something blue and simple.

Have you went to Dell's support site and got the drivers? When I redid My latitude D600, which I am using now I had to reinstall the USB 2.0 controller software. it said that it was missing usbehci.sys file. If you need it you can get it from USB Drivers. May not need the same file but I'm gambling that it is. Check Dell Support though.

Edit: Just looked Myself. Download the chipset for the laptop and try installing that as it is what works the USB support.

same error, SP2 fixed it. I think I was just expecting more out of a USB 2.0 transfer rate

Thanks guys

Often updates need to come direvt;ly from Dell. I had a neighbor with similar issues and only Dell drivers worked properly. Buy a Dell, consider yourself married to Dell.
