How do I know if my router's firewall is working?

I have been running on my new router (Linksys) for a few weeks now and have had absolutely no issues with getting out to play online games or anything like that. I really thought that I would have to work out more issues with the built-in firewall and my online gaming addictions to Counterstrike, Unreal Tournament, Empire Earth and the like.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks!

Your router doesn't actually have a firewall. It does network address translation. Because this makes external attacks on internal system significantly harder, all SOHO router vendors advertise firewalling capabilities that aren't really there. There is no way to check if it is working, but you don't have to, because if it isn't working, you can't connect out.

Logging to the following links, will provide you a fare eval. of your "Protection:

First log here, scroll down, and do both:

Test My Shlieds! Prob My Ports!

Shields Up!

Then Log here (it tests more ports):

Remote Security Tester.

Your router doesn't have a true firewall (ACL's).
It is referred to as a natural firewall because cannot see your internal IP addresses, they only see the 1 IP address assigned to your WAN interface.

False advertisement really..

Another decent website that checks for your port open/closed status is GRC.com and use the Shields Up! test.

Damn, people beat me to it by 2ms.
