How do I know if my OC was successful?

I was running my P4 2.4C at 3.0 GHz and it has been getting BSODs mostly in games and playing music. The BSODs are usually of the error code 0x00000050 meaning Page_Fault_In_Non-Paged_Area. Sometimes the BSOD involves the page fault with the kmixer.sys. When it BSODs, the sound stutters and cracks and I hear a distinct HDD click meaning it turned off. To test, I disabled my page file and reenabled it, and it still crashed. I also lowered my CPU down to 2.4 GHz again and relaxed my memory timings from 2-5-3-3 to 2-6-3-3 and set the Game Accelerator from Street Racer to Auto for the Abit IS7-E. I was able to run stably in games and music so far, but I'm still testing. I'm running stock cooling so I think maybe the computer crashes when the CPU hits too high of a temp? I don't see how the overclocked CPU can affect the page file other than the fact when the temps are too high and it crashes, it fails to dump into page file. Any other ideas? I wanna be able to run 3.0 GHz (why I bought the 2.4C) and still run it pretty stable. And would getting a new hsf other than stock cooling or applying AS3 and getting rid of thermal pad help?

If the IS7 is like the IC7, then keep the performance mode at "auto" or "disabled" (depending on BIOS and board) for overlocking.

I'm willing to bet if you leave it auto, and relax your timings (and use a 5:4 ratio since anything past 217 FSB will be OCing PC3500 RAM) you'll be able to OC fairly well.

Don't be afraid to up the vcore to 1.6, 1.625 if the IS7 undervolts as the IC7 does.

First of all, I can't find the performance mode in BIOS, but yet I think I'm running BIOS 13. I don't want to relax my timings anymore because my Corsair memory is set to run at 2-6-3-3 and the problem now is that it get BSODs from page file when I'm OCed. How is that possible?
