Is that it i dont know why it would be overheating check my pc stats on the rig link below

The HS I GOT IT:

http://www.tcwo.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_prod.html?p_prodid=2469&sid=1gi2Ty0l4M4l7hP

main site is:
http://www.coolermaster.com/products/cpucooler/fcpga/dp5-6j31c.html

when i 1st build it i accidenly scarted some thermal pad stuff off i thoihht it was a peel off.. heh 1st time builder mistake! but i doubt thats it b.c it should melt on the die anyway.

So you have some sort of thermal pad or thermal greese on your current heatsink, right? Try installing Motherboard Monitor and check the temps... I think the cause of your game crashes is probably instablity due to driver corruption, some sort of unstable OC, or a video card issue.

It looks like there isn't a good enough interface between your cpu and the heatsink, which is causing your cpu to overheat and thus the lockups. To double check, note your mobotherboard model and download MotherBoard monitor 5 it is a very useful program in determining how hot your cpu is getting. The site has a little grid that will direct you on configuring the prog's sensors to your motherboard.

If your cpu temps reach 50C or more, I'd say that its definetly a heat issue. Your best bet would be to get some goof off and completely remove the thermal pad then apply something like Arctic Silver to interface between the cpu and HS.

Well bursting into flames is a pretty good indication of overheating.

Get some Arctic Silver III and just reseat the heatsink, if that dose not work, make sure you power supply is decent. Could be a driver issue as well though, in which case you should update them all.

That's to high, just get some thermal paste and get rid of the pad.

Use MB monitor or something and check your temperatures run a cpu extensive program and watch the temp monitor.

Why don't you use a CPU specific benchmark, like Prime 95, to see if it's the CPU causing the problems?

I doubt that your problem is your CPU overheating. I am running at 51C right now and have no stability problems to speak of nor do I get any lock ups. The only time my system locks up is when I use the onboard sound and that is because the onboard sound and XP don't get along. I would look at drivers being more the issue.

To give us a better idea of what may be going, post your full specs: cpu, mobo, ram, psu, OS.

I still think that idling at 50C is pretty warm. Also, if you can't get Arctic Silver, you can always use the thermal paste they have at Radio Shack in a pinch.

I had a problem with an XP1700 Palomino (at 1.750 volts like your's) and a GF4 Ti4200 video card on my old KT266A chipset mobo. Problem was, the CPU and the video card are so power hungry, they fight for juice... seems like the CPU lost most of the time in my system cause it would randomly reboot when playing 3D intense games. I watch MBM as I started a 3D game, and CPU voltage dropped to 1.69 when the video card fired up in 3D. So in the BIOS I set the voltage to +0.50 volts and that cured the problem... voltage only dropped to 1.740, and got as high as 1.780... temps didn't change at all... but the stability problems were cured.
