How do I keep Firefox from refreshing the page

OK, let's say that I'm looking at a page of thumbnail images of kittens. When I click a thumbnail and open the full-size image, then go back to the thumbnail page, all of the thumbnails have to reload. I do not want the page to refresh. How do I keep the page from refreshing? All of my browser settings seem to be set correctly.

By the way, it just started doing this one day out of the blue.

Kittens eh? Why don't you just open the pics in a new tab. Or get that extension that opens all the picture links on the page in new tabs.

Are you sure that they reload from the webpage? Sometimes when there are many images in the cache, there is a delay when loading the images from the cache and it looks like they were reloaded from the webpage again.
