the cd drive on this laptop always gives tons of errors when I try to install xp and I know the disk is fine since I have tried multiple disks (both of which have worked flawlessly on other machines) and it gave similar errors. I have a nic for this machine as well as a floppy drive. I just don't know how to go about doing a network install. Thanks.

I'm not sure what the problem is exactly with the drive but when I tried to transfer large files with it the computer crashed. The machine is a pII 366 with 128mb RAM and 5gb HD so its fine.

agreed. 2000 is your best bet or you may even want to try Linux (if your up to it).

your problem may be the harddrive that you're trying to install XP onto. i had a similar problem -- got errors every time i tried to install the OS. it wasn't the CD-ROM drive, i'll tell you that.

I've had it on this machine before. It runs just fine with all the visuals turned off. Just as good as 2000 plus more features.

i installed XP Pro to 15-20 machines over the summer. about 12 of them are P-II 400 and there rest are P-II 366. the RAMs varied from 128 -256 MB. they run just fine.
