How do I install XP on an external Hard Disk

I can't install Windows XP on the External Hard disk, as Laptop doesn't boot from CD/DVD Drive.
I have set the boot device priority of CD/DVD Rom as 1st in the BIOS
 
AFAIK neither XP or Vista will allow you to install them to a removable disk. You might be able to hack something like BartPE onto one but nothing official from MS.
