You could not get that EXE file extracted? That seems odd, it worked fine for me.

I have the EXE, but don't know how to get it on something bootable and use it. Too big for a floppy and I never set up a usb drive to boot.

Ohh, I see. That's easy, format your USB drive, copy that EXE file into your USB drive, insert and restart. Then, press F12(In my case, maybe different option for you) to go to boot menu and select USB flash drive and boot from that.

The instructions from the OP's link:

[F/W Patch Procedure]
1. Please unzip attached file to Bootable media (USB,CD, Floppy...etc).
2. Please connect Target HDD to Primary / Mast.
3. Booting the system to DOS mode by bootable media.(which with this F/W flash program).
4. Please run " Patch ".
5. When FW Flash successfully message display , please Power Off system, to make F/W flash complete.

The expanded Samsung utility is larger than the capacity of a 1.44 MB flash drive so you'll have to use a USB flash drive or CD formatted and bootable to DOS.

If you want to use a flash drive, there's an old HP utility that will do that. For some reason, it's no longer on HP's site, but you can download it, here. The zipped file contains the HP USB disk storage format tool V2.0.6 HPUSBFW.exe (renamed hpflash1.exe), which installs the utility and appears in your Start menu as DriveKey. It also contains a second zipped file with the necessary root directory files for booting to DOS 7 from Windows 98 SE.

When you run DriveKey, it will ask for the location of the boot files you want to use. For this and most applications, all you will need is Command.Com and, if necessary, a mouse driver. Directing the program to that folder will create the bootable drive with only these files.

Once you've created your bootable flash drive, copy the Samsung flash program to it, and be sure your machine is capable of booting to it. You may have to edit your CMOS to do this.

Hope that helps. Good luck. :)
