How do I install RedHat in my pc?

Hi,

I am new to Linux, but I really want to learn. When I click to download the iso images of RedHat linux from here. They show me a lot of discs that I need to download. Do I actually need to download all these three discs? or do I just need the first disc to install linux? When I installed Win2k in my rig I only needed one disk. How come linux has three discs for just one operating system?

Thanks for the input!🙂

depends on what you install. linux has a lot more to offer than windows if you do a full install. It can include office apps, graphing, multimedia, etc etc. there are linux distros from as small as a floppy to 3 cds.

Read all of the docs on installing linux, then read them again. It's far too often someone who wants an operating system just like windows, but isn't, i.e. redhat, and screws something up because they didn't read the docs thouroughly. Now trust me, this information is not coming from some elitist, I've been in your position...

My advice to you is, read the docs, and learn to use IRC more. That's the biggest difference, for me, between using Windows and using Linux...

For redhat you'll probably only need the first two disks... but getting all three would probably help incase you pick some thing on it, but I've never see it ask for the 3rd disk.
