How do i do that ?

Do i install from the boot from CD way , or can i start the installation

Well you need to have unformated/unpartitioned space on your harddrive. Linux doesn't use Fat32 or NTFS. (don't forget the 4 partition limit/extended partition/logical partition sceme if you have lots of partitions to mess around with)

Around 10gigs or so would be great.

Then let the installer do the work, let it repartition the unformated/unpartitioned space. Usually you have 2 partitions you need one for root one for swap. The swap partition is usually around 512 megs or so. But the installer should take care of it.

Also the installer should be able to handle setting up the dual boot thru the Linux bootloader. Most of the time it works well, but nothing is perfect so if you want to be safe get a rescue disk setup for your windows stuff.

Also if you can download a newer version of Suse. Linux progresses fairly rapidly and your version is a couple versions old. you can download 2 different versions of the installer here

One is a personal edition and that's one CD. Then their is a FTP install. FTP install means that you boot up with a CD and download the installation files from the internet as you install them, but since your a newbie probably using the personal edition install cd would be best. Previously Suse was only offering free ftp installs or paid for CDROMs.

You should really download the newest version of it first. You can download an iso image then just burn that to a cd. It will then work just like a store bought cd.

Hi ,

Thanks for the help , im going to install later on tonight .

I tried to get the latest version of SuSe 9.1 and it was 702mb , but
i got the download to exactly 95% and it just vanished :disgust:

I thought it had finished , but it was nowhere ?

It took about 6 hours to download , so i waited and tried it the next day
SAME thing happened ?

I dont know if mabye it was the mirror i was downloading from or the FTP
the second time , i used the UK ones.

I may try a different mirror next time 🙁

Thanks anyway for helping

Ive installed SuSe 8.2 and it seems to be running fine except my nForce2 Network wouldnt work ,
I had to put in a PCI network card , and my Graphics card seems to be lagging when scrolling , think i need to update
the drivers.

This is what i wanted to know :-
1 : Can i get things like Google Toolbar for web searching , and programs like that ?
how do i install them , it says something about an app called "Wine" and that it may mess up my Windows Installation ?

2 : Can i update from the online Update within Suse KDE to the SuSe 9.1 , it asked my when installing if i wanted to
update my version but my NIC wasent configured and the connection wasent there ;(

3 :I dont have Knome ? I think i had that the last time i installed this ?
Can i install it ? It didnt ask my for CD 3 during installation mabye thats why .huh ?

If anyone has time , any help with any of these quieries would be great

Thank You

I believe you should be able, but I remember reading somewhere about not being able to if you don't have the professional version.
