You must have DOS in order to have Win98. That means Win98 is installed *over* DOS. To boot up DOS, hold the F8 key when "Starting Windows 98" is displayed, and then choose "Command Prompt only" or whichever that suits your needs.

If F8 didn't work.. try holding control..

Actually just keep tapping F8.. it should work.

I'm not sure if you should do it before or after the "Starting Windows 98..." prompts comes up.

This was a little ambiguous in your ambiguous post, and I was wondering if you could clarify - do you have win 9x installed, or do you have 2k/XP and are trying to install DOS from the win98 CD? (Your Rigs link shows XPPro).

I have Win98 installed...as the topic suggests. ;)

I have about 10 working computers here so I decided to use my P3 933 for an arcade machine. =)

Are you using the machine as an emulator machine?
If so, why not just use Win98? If you want DOS, you can probably make a boot disk and format the drive with /s to install system files and make it boot to it in DOS.
Heh Or try looking for some old DOS disks out there collecting dust. I think I had DOS 6.2 around somewhere. I had 4, 5, 6 at one time.

in msdos.sys, F8 can be disabled. I don't remember how, but if it is, you're not getting into DOS mode that way ;)

What you really want is not bootgui=0, set that back to 1.

If you see a line that says Bootmenu=0, change this to BootMenu=1, otherwise add the line Bootmenu=1 (right above the bootgui line).

This will make a menu of whether you want windows, DOS, safe mode, safe mode with networking, or whatever for up to 30 seconds every time you boot.
You can change how long the menu lasts if you don't hit anything by adding BootMenuDelay=<number of seconds>
