Ok, I know how to add an extra phone jack on to the end of an existing one, but I want to add one in the middle of the wire, not at the end.

Basically the phone wiring for my apartment is run along the baseboards. It runs through my bedroom, through the wall, in to the living room area where it terminates at the only jack in the place. I want to add a jack in my bedroom.

If I cut the wire in my room is there any way to easily insert a new jack in there or am I going to need a new run of wire to the living room jack?

As a side note I've never done this before but I've read how to do it.

I have a simple solution for you

Get a multi headset phone with a base station.

No wires and such...

Probably cheaper in the long run .. instead of putting wires in your wall

Actually I want the jack to hook my computer up to DSL so I want a jack next to my desk.

I use a cell phone as my primary phone.

put a junction box up (a phone junction box), then cut the wire and run it through the junction box.

If you dont have dsl yet..
Most offer free DSL installation

They installed some kinda box outside of My house when I ordered it.
They told me I can have install like 6 seperate jacks if I wanted to. They installed this huge box outside on the side of my house

Oh, best thing to do then is to split the phone line as it comes into your house (Using a junctionbox). Put the line filter on one line, then run a new cable to whereever your DSL modem will be (unfiltered). This way you don't have to put line filters on all your phones.

If you cut the wire (not recommended), you'll have to terminate the end at the jack you intend to install, and then splice the other end of the wire you just cut so that you don't lose service on the other jack.

If you don't want to run the wire back along the baseboards yourself, there are products which can use your electrical system wiring to transfer the signal.

Can't you just daisy-chain them?

Find the part of the wire you want and cut it. Add a box then just make a daisy-chain from the other part of the wire. I did something similar and didn't have a problem...
