I am wondering how to get a website moved up on google so it would show up in the first ten sites? It is an oilfield company and we would like to have the site show up on the first page of results when the typical search words are put in the search? Thanks

you can pay, but you won't be in the normal results. i guess you could try to increase the number of pages that link to you... that's part of their method.

i think search engines are still based off of meta tags, so add more meta tags to your index page. Additionally, try adding pages below your index file to the search engines to increase "hits".

I believe that Google's method involves an algorithm that is based on the number and quality of links to your page. So, as others have mentioned, you can move up the rankings in Google if pages that have a lot of links to them, link to you. So what I'm saying is that a link from a popular site is "worth more" than a link from some site that nobody goes to. It follows that putting up 1000 webpages each with 1000 links to your site isn't going to help.

The reason why Google is generally thought to be the best general purpose search engine is because it is very difficult to manipulate their results. If you could easily move your site to the top of the list, then it would cease to be a good search engine. Sorry.

You could try www.send2press.com -- yes the company is owned by my brother but he has been doing web development since 1995 and graphic design / arts for about 20 years now.

I have no financial interest in the company myself, I'm a lead developer at Respondus, Inc.
