I took the hard drive from my other computer which uses OE to d/l e-mails, to this one I have at home..and I want to access the messages from that computer. Where do I go to find them?

On your old computer go to-

C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{2C7D8CD1-00FA-123F-BF86-DD123A20D123}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

The folder name with all the letters and numbers will vary. There may be more than one depending on if there were more than one identity set up.

Copy the entire contents of the Outlook Express folder.

On the new HD, find the same folder path (remember the one will vary) and replace the Oultook Express folder with the old one. Be sure OE is not running when you do this.

If you copy and paste the right folder to the right place, you will see all your emails and still retain any folders etc that you created.

Now, if you have already downloaded main into the new OE that you want to combine with the old, it gets a little more complicated.

I tried going into my d&s\username\ folder on my HD but it says "access is denied"..and I can't find the identities folder in any of the other folders listed in D&S. Hmm..

Oh, as far as seeing that folder, you need to go to folder options and set it so that you can see hidden files and folders.

We are talking about Win 2k or XP right?

Can you still boot with your old HD? Or are you just using it as a slave drive?

If you can boot into it, open OE and right click on your inbox and choose properties. There will be a line saying this folder is stored in teh following file, then will have a path. The path name will be longer than what will show, just click at the front to hilight it and drag to the right side where the text stops. You will see the text move and slide to the left. Copy the path up to the last \ and leave off the inbox.dbx file. Then copy/paste that into Run.

Another thing you can do is use find to search for inbox.dbx. You can track down all the files an any HD on your pc named that. Right click the file and tell it to open the containing folder.
