i'm wanting to do this for easy transfers of files with some friends of mine as well as transferring large files from work to home....i would want to set up the server on my comp. at home which has:

xp 1700+
ecs k7s5a
256mb crucial pc133
WD 80GB 7200rpm
Win2K Pro SP2
Internet connection = Bellsouth ADSL(1.5Mb)

where is a good place to go to find out how to get started??

all you need is an FTP server program (such as Serv-U) and a decent upstream bandwidth (or you'll be downloading from your ftp VEEEERY slowly).

it's really very very simple. basically just install the software and go...just keep in mind that if you're behind a firewall you don't have control over (ie: school/work environment), you may not be able to have people log into your computer.

edit - Qosis...you beat me to it 🙂
