how do I hookup my subwoofer?

my receiver has a single monoaural connection cable but my subwoofer has only speakers connections.

is there a simple answer?

If your sub only has speaker connections then you should run an extra set of speaker wire from your receiver to your sub. You should run wire from the front left speaker connection on the receiver to the left speaker connection on the sub. You will also need to do the same to the right speaker connection.

Some subs only have a SINGLE speaker connection input. In this case, you would need a seperate amplifier for the sub.

panasonic SA-XR25 receiver, dayton 10 inch 100watt sub. my receiver manual show the only option for connecting the sub is a RCA monaural cable to the subwoofer.

the sub has line level and high level inputs

L/R line in and out rca jacks
8 speaker wire posts, L+/-, R+/- high level input and high level output

If I get what you're saying, this sub connects INLINE with the other speakers.

Reciever=>Sub(L+R)=>Speakers(L+R)

Ignore the reciever manual, you just won't be able to tune the sub per the reciever's instructions. If I were more bored, I could tell you how to do it "properly"

Edit: Johngute said how to do it properly, now you figure out how to do it.

get a Y splitter and go from the recievers "single monoaural connection" to the "L/R line in rca jacks"

from the manual:
Inputs:
.... The line level
inputs are used to connect pre-out or preamplifier outputs directly to the
subwoofer amplifier?s internal crossover. These inputs are summed to
mono. This is the preferred way to connect the subwoofer amplifier. If
you have a mono line level signal from a ?Pro Logic?or ?Dolby digital?
receiver use the right ?red? input.
....

so there is no need to get a splitter

once you get it all hooked up let me know how it sounds. I've got the XR10 and I'm looking for a new sub.

get an external amp, run rca's to the amp, and then speaker wire from the amp to the sub...????

not gunna get much from a sub being pushed by a receiver.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

johngute you the man!
I hooked it up like you said but still was getting nothing. SO I played around with my receiver and saw I had the subwoofer output seto to zero.
I'm the Empire Strikes Back right now and it sounds awesome! I'm feeling more than hearing it. 😀

I 'm getting the AVIA setup and test dvd anyday to help me tweak it a little more.

SithSolo1 I bought this on the advice of others. I have heard nothing bad about it here and in AVS forum and a couple other places I googled, in fact everyone seemed to rate it very high performance for the money. this is my first decent setup, as you can tell i'm very new to this.

here is my setup:
Panasonic SA-XR25
Infinity Primus C25 center, Primus C150 l/r front
Dayton subwoofer.

I don't have room for surrounds right now.
I have this hooked up to my SDTV and my HTPC via SPDIF from my revo 7.1 sound card.

I'm very happy!

another XR-25/Dayton owner chiming in...

i have my dayton hooked up to my XR-25 with the mono-to-stereo splitter...it sounded fine using the mono-to-mono, but i was bored and the splitter was only a few bucks.

i have athena AS-F2 mains and i love how clear and crisp my system is. all for just $600, and it blows any HTIB out of the water...

any difference with the splitter?

maybe a little...i actually got the Athena's at the same time, so my entire system sounded different. like i said, it was $3 at radioshack and actually had cash on me, so...

i remember reading over on avsforums that somebody thought it made a small difference in the loudness of the sub (gained a few extra dB, all else being equal).

any gains on my system are probably just in my head.
