For a general explanation follow this. All audio components deal with either Audio In (recieving audio signal) or Audio Out (providing signal). What you need to do, Is make a path for the audio signal to travel from your Source (Dreamcast, CD player, Computer, VCR) to your Amplifier (TV speakers, Home Theather System, Shelf System, etc.) Your Dreamcast will have an "Audio Out", or "Line Out", or L and R (corresponding to Left Channel, Right Channel) You want to send the signal out from here, to the Audio IN, Aux IN, Line IN, or again L and R IN on your stereo. The most common connection between audio components is made with RCA cables (They look similar to banana plugs, and are usually colored at the ends with one being RED, and the other WHITE, (there is also YELLOW which is usually VIDEO) So you want to make a path from the audio out, to the audio in. Sometimes you can use some devices as a "hub", ex. a VCR. You can go from audio out of DC, to audio IN on VCR. Then audio OUT from VCR to AUDIO IN on stereo. I realize this can be confusing, but hopefully I've helped a little.
