I'm thinking of getting this tv tuner and want to hook it up to my LCD. I currently have my LCD hooked up through DVI to my computer and was wondering how I could hook up my computer + this external tv tuner. Is it possible? What connections would I use?

why don't you use get a TV tuner card for your PC. it would be a lot cheaper and a lot easier to hook up.

tv cards don't generally have 1280x1024 support, unless you pay a lot

Why do you need 1280x1024 support? I mean, tv's res. is 640x480 (or close to it) so, unless it could do HDTV, why bother?

From what I've read, the tv box allows for the resolution to be increased and "clarifies" the picture a bit...someone in Hot Deals called it "upscaling" the picture.

Also, you should be able to get a nice picture from the Xbox with the tv box being able to do a higher resolution.

Plus my LCD is native 1280x1024, so it's a match made in geek heaven.

That should work fine.

Computer -> DVI -> LCD
TV Tuner -> VGA -> LCD

LCD's do scale. The reason for getting a tuner box that can output 1280x1024 is if the tuner box's scaling of video up to 1280x1024 is better/cleaner than the LCD panel's. If so, then it's better handled at the box, if not, then it's best to feed native rate into the LCD and let the LCD handle the scaling.

So what are you saying? Will this box improve my video quality or can I just get a Leadtek TV2000 PCI or whatever it's called at Newegg for $20 less and let it do the same thing?

I don't know, especially since you didn't say what kind of LCD monitor you had.

However, the Leadtek is a good choice, if you want to use your computer. If you don't want to have to turn on your computer, then the box is a good choice.
