How do I hook two XP computers together using a patch cable?

I have two computers running windows xp professional and I have a crossover cable that i will connect the two computers together through their ethernet cards. What settings do I have to change in Windows for the two computers to be able to communicate with each other? I basically want to send all my files to the other computer (i am backing up my files).

I suspect once you do the hookup, the XP networking wizard can walk you through the rest. Also, you can right-click on the folders you want to share, select share, and give your other machine access.

The Wizard sometimes goofs.

For the initial setting, disable all software Firewall (including WinXP native ICF); disable any active Virus scan or any other utility that might intercept Network Traffic.

You have to enable user, and sharing settings of WinXP Pro.
