How do I "hide" my true IP address w/ Linksys Router ?

I just got everything all hooked up with my new Linksys BEFSR41 and am enjoy my new "hardware" firewall. With the software firewall I used to use, it would re-direct my connection to different proxies, effectively "hiding" my true IP address (which is static). I was just wondering, is there anyway I could do this with my new router setup ?

what software firewall were you useing. I'll I can ever do is just make my ip not exist. So if for example you ping my ip it would just timeout. How did you route them to other locations.

Well for anexample if you use Tiny personell firewall with win2k or even 98 i think. You can set whole buncg of rules you for inbound and outboud traffic. When ever someone attempt to gain access to your pc it pops up a warning message that would ask you to permit or deny the request. If you deny it for example there ping would timeout. Very easy to setup. You should give it a try www.tinysoftware.com. Its a pretty cool firewall.

yeah with linux you can filter all ICMP types (pings echos etc.). you can also use portsentry or a linux IDS to detect scans and block them from your box.

You can not surf the Internet without IP, since the system does not know what to do if there is no Address (IP). It is like sending a letter addressed to John Smith, Some where in the World.

There are some services that provide you with ?Anonymous proxy?. Every time you log, your Browser log to their site, and all surfing done through them. In other word every where ever you go the other site sees the Anonymous Proxy's IP number not yours.

The Anonymous Proxy people promise not to tell but they know where you go.

JackMDS: I think he was referring to a stealth mode. Simply put, any attempted scans would be unable to determine whether or not there was actually anything at the specified ip addy. BTW, some dev's ont he net don't have ip's, just mac's(like my router).

Actually what Killaz is trying to do is setup a proxy pointing server that will point to an anoymous proxy in the internet to surf out of with an anonymous IP.

Killaz: What you will need to do is to setup a proxy machine between your Internal Network and the router. There is no setting you can do on the router itself because the Anonymous proxy is software based and needs to be running to find the anonymous proxys out there to connect to.

You will need to install the software on the proxy machine to use the router as the internet device and then point to the internet resource for your anonymous proxy. then you share out this resource to your local machines through this proxy machine.
