How do I hardwire 2 computers through router?

Hi,
I've got a wireless router with my old computer connected to it by cable. I will also connect the new computer to the router by cable. How do I set up both computers and the router to allow me to copy files from the old computer to the new?

there is not setting required on the router, and print sharing setup for the boxes, as well as exceptions in the S/W firewall.

I've never done it before so a bit more detail would help. What do you have to set in Windows to allow both machines to see the drives of the other?

As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what is allowed to be shared.
