for a crack rack? what do i change on the Klinux cliend for my nodes, and what do i change on the actual master(hopefully getting it and setting it up this weekend 😉)
it would be nice to know what i have to do before i actualy put out the cash for it 😉

thanks guys!

pProxy is fairly simple. Similar to setting up a client, ou just make all the changes to the ini file.

Point all your clients to the machine's ip running the pProxy and point the pProxy to the round robin (or Dnet, your decision, but you don't get Mika's stats then. 😉 ). Then run the pProxy as an application in WIn9x/NT or as a service in NT. pProxy cannot be run as a service in 9x.

toph99: Setting up the proxy itself is really easy... the readme's that come with them are good... just change the address for the keyserver in your Klinux clients, should look something like this:

[networking]
nofallback=true
autofindkeyserver=no
keyserver=192.168.0.1

That's just the part that has to do with keyservers...

Just ask if there's something else!

ok, so is it a different program i have to download to set this up?
btw, i'm going to be learning how to use a version of Linux Server i got with my Linksys switch so i'm going to be needing a lot of help with this eventually 😱

i also have another question:
i have my current setup like this:
2 computers>switch>share dsl
would it be best to put two NIC's in my pProxy computer and then plug a hub into one of them which is connected to the nodes, and run another cable to the switch so it can access through the dsl?

btw, this is going to be going directly to the keyserver(eventually it may go to Mika's so i can keep track, but i want to keep it simple for now) and it'll be credited to the Cube 😉

Chris,

You have the five port Linksys switch, correct? If so, it's not necessary to have two NICs in your server unless you wanted to segregate part of it from the rest of the network. Just plug it in to your switch along with the rest.

The pproxy software is here, and stats software is here. toward the bottom of the page it's the top one under stats generators.

Russ,

yep, 5 port linksys switch(and i love the lil thing 😉)
if i connect the nodes and the master all to one hub, then the hub to the switch, it would work?

Yes, that would also work. I have a similar setup here, although it involves a few more switches.🙂

well now i have my shopping list 🙂

Dual PII's or Celerons
Dual socket/slot motherboard
32mb ram
a case
1 NIC(10mbps, the extra money isn't worth the extra bandwidth they don't need 😛)
1 KVM from Onvia.ca($37cnd i think it was)
1 cheapo video card
a fuse for the PS on my second node(anyone know what the rating usually is? its a 250W AT power supply, and the fuse has no markings)
an 80mm fan for the PS(the one that was in it seized up completely)
a 10BT hub

time to spend money i don't have 😉 (i'm a high school student, ok? 😛)

Guys, i have a problem. Was sick for the past few days so i couldn't get down to solving it.

See, i was building 3 computers for my friends. They're all built fine, Duron 750@900Mhz, 2Tbirds 850Mhz@950Mhz. (All running RC5 of course! Haven't flushed yet)

These computers have 1 Linksys NIC each. They're connected to a 5 port hub which uplink is linked to another LinkSys NIC in my main computer (Duron 900Mhz) That main computer has another NIC, an Intel Pro which is linked to my cable modem.

The network is set up using ICS. Internet, filesharing, all works fine for the computers in the network, fetching and flushing for RC5 is perfect too.

But ever since the network is up, my proxy and webserver stopped working for everyone else outside of my network. Seems that even loading http://jinsonxu.teamanandtech.com has problems and NO one outside of my network can access my proxy. Any ideas on that? I've asked Brad about it too but he couldn't assist much either. 🙁

Also, is it necessary for me to have that 2nd NIC?

<< They're connected to a 5 port hub which uplink is linked to another LinkSys NIC >>

Hmmm... You don't use the uplink, unless it''s to another hub.

Edit - some hubs will have a switch, to set the last port up as a regular port, or an uplink.
Some others will have marking, to show either the second to last as a regular port, or the last one as an uplink.
