Lol. Google is profitable, they have a solid business model with advertisers, not donors. They're one of the few .com success stories out there.
They were funded by Kleiner Perkins, Caufield & Byers and Sequoia Capital to start. Ron Conway of Angel investors did some brokering of the deal and came out with a nice chunk too. Many think they intend to go public but they've insisted they have no intention to, particularly in this unstable fiscal climate.
I am one degree of separation from them corporately and am physically about a mile from their H.Q. They make money. Tons of it.
