I've been searching for a used SVS subwoofer for awhile now, and finally found someone who is willing to sell one on AVS. The sub is two months old with a receipt, in mint condition, and he's dropping 30% off the retail price. Sounds like a good deal to me, but how do i go about buying it? The guy only has about 150 posts on that forum, and doesn't seem to have accounts with eBay or Heatware. He wants me to pay through PayPal, but how do i ensure that he doesn't just take off with the money?

If you have a lot of heatware references, ask him to ship first. If you have the refs, and he is really legit, it shouldn't be a problem for him. (at least imo)

If neither of you have many references, then maybe you could work something out like you send 1/2 the money now, then the rest when it gets there?

Don't trade with him, I wouldn't. Use some common sense when trading. If you're not willing to give $100 to strangers on the street for no reason then I can't see how this is any different. Don't end up like this guy here. If that doesn't motivate you to not trade with someone who has no references then may GOD be fricking with you :)
