How do I get Yahoo to accept emails from my mail server?

SMTP error from remote mail server after initial connection: host e.mx.mail.yahoo.com [216.39.53.1]: 421 Message from (74.52.223.218) temporarily deferred - 4.16.50. Please refer to http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/defer/defer-06.html
Connecting to b.mx.mail.yahoo.com [66.196.97.250]:25 ... connected
SMTP<< 421 Message from (74.52.223.218) temporarily deferred - 4.16.50. Please refer to http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/defer/defer-06.html
SMTP>> QUIT

That's what I get 90% of the time when email users send emails to a yahoo account. I've filled out some form on Yahoo's page to get me off whatever list I am on, but it's been several days and nothing.

I don't know where to begin really, any ideas?

Does your mail server try again later? Looks like greylisting meaning they tell you to come back later assuming a real mail server will but a spammer won't waste his time.

Yeah, the mail queues flush every 30 minutes but it doesn't really help because I just get deferred again!

You could always route your mail though another host that Yahoo will accept mail from.

Major sites/ISPs often block mail if you don?t have a domain name properly attached to your IP address. Perhaps they blocked you for that.

The majority of large volume servers will do a reverse DNS lookup on your server. If there is no PTR record, the server will reject the mail.
Here is a nice explanation on PTR records, and why your ISP is the only DNS server that can host that record.

Yeah, we've got a PTR record all setup. This is from a dedicated server @ theplanet.com and the support over there set up the reverse dns entry. a dig -x of the mail server's IP returns ns2.mydomain.com which uses the same IP. Does it really matter if my DNS servers have the same IP's as other services?
