How do I get Windows Explorer Back on Program Menu in XP?

I'm used to dragging and dropping drives for shortcuts out of my computer.

I dragged and dropped Windows Explorer from Program Menu onto the Desktop.

How do I get it back in the program menu where it should be? Thanks.

You can get it by right clicking the Start button. Myself, I also have a shortcut to Windows Explorer in my Quick Launch on the Taskbar. That's the fastest way to launch it. I guess you can also do the hotkey thing (which I never use), Windows Key + E, I believe! Yep, that works too.

Did you tell me how to replace Windows Explorer to its place in the Start Menu? The place its been for the past 10 years worth of Windows Versions.

I know how to find it in a hurry. I'm just trying to return Windows Explorer to the Program Menu so it operates like a regular Windows Program Menu.

Um, I don't follow you. My Programs menu doesn't even have Windows Explorer. Could you explain? What and where is the Windows Program Menu you're talking about. I'm referring to (and I thought you meant) Start/Programs. The only way I've ever known to access Windows Explorer from the Start button is to right click it. It's the first item you see, called Explorer.

Go into your second or third column of programs from the program menu and down around where you find Word Pad is a link to Windows Explorer.

Oh, that would be the Accessories submenu. You miss it there? Gee, I'd think it way inconvenient to have to go there to get Explorer. Like OrooOroo says, just go Windows Key + e.

If you really want it back in Accessories, put a shortcut to it in:

<Your boot drive>\Users\<Your User Name>\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories

To the best of my knwledge and belief, Explorer has always been located in the Accessories folder - not a top level program. The Win key + E is very cool. I also have it as an icon on my desktop.

It's not the point all the different hot keys to get Windows Explorer. The point is I worked on someone else's machine and I wish to restore it to it's original place.

There are a lot of bright people here, and many who work on others computers. I'm sure that after we remove the malware and get their computers working that we want to leave them in their original state. We want it to be original for the next user or tech.

That is the point of returning Windows Explorer to its place on the program menu.

If I wanted a hot key, I could make one or write a macro.

Right-click the Start menu, click Explore All Users, navigate down to Programs, and drag the icon back from the desktop. Then go into the start menu itself and drag the entry around until it's in the right position.

You could also drag it straight from the desktop, point at the Start menu while holding the mouse button down, continue to Programs, etc, but that would put it in just the current user's start menu.

I actually keep it in my Quick Launch toolbar.
