How do I get Windows 7 to recognize my other hard disk?

I have 2 HD's, the windows install program recognized both of them. But now that it's installed the 2nd hard disk doesn't show up under my computer, only the system disk. How do I fix this.

If the second disk is brand new, then it needs to be initialized, partitioned, and formatted using Windows Disk Management. If the disk is "used" and from a different PC, it could be a Windows Dynamic Disk, which might need to be "imported" to the new PC.

There could, of course, be other issues, but those are the first two things to check.

You probably have to format it to NTFS? Get a bootable USB key and format it. Or I think you might be able to re-run the Windows installer from the DVD and format it from there. Then just quit the installer without going further into the install.

Edit: RebateMonger is right. His way is also faster. Click Start > Run and type diskmgmt.msc in the Open: line and click OK. The Disk Management snap-in will open. In Windows 7 you just type it into the bottom search box since there is no run box. Then in there right-click the hard drive and click Format. Format it to NTFS.

alright cool, I'm in windows disk management and for the missing HD it says "disk 1" then 232.88G and 'unallocated'. I don't see anything that says initialize or format though under the options of what I can do to it though..

edit: nm, I'm making it a simple volume as we speak
