I'd rather not have all the pre-loaded software HP installs on their new laptops.I tried fdisking, repartioning, formatting, but when I went to load MY XP disk it said invalid disk..I also want fat32 instead of NTSF.

So I put HP's restore crap back on it for now.Does anyone know a work around for this.I don't really care if it voids the warranty :Q

thanks alot,
Curtis

Of course :)
Do you have the cdrom as the first boot device in the laptop?
I just did a reinstall with this same disk a few days ago and it worked fine.

No,it's my own personal corporate edition.
By 'MY XP Disk' it sounds like your using the restore disk that came with the HP lappy?

HP just loads so much sh!t on their that it's not even funny.I could go through and delete every thing in the add remove proggies but I'd rather not.Plus I don't like NTFS :D

thx fer the replys ;)

Does that mean its warez or you actually purchased a corporate license? Try making boot floppies for it and using those to install it.

NTFS is better than FAT32. There is absolutely no reason to use FAT32 with a modern OS.

I'll try the floppies..thanks
use a Win98 one or one from bootdisk.com ..:) once the drive(hope its smaller than 40GB..) is FAT32 ..if your XP CD is bootable it should run..gl :)

Wow, Corporate licenses are insanely expensive! You must be rollin' in dough! Wanna share? ;)

No, its not. Its a technical fact. There are plenty of reasons NTFS is technically better than FAT32, but absolutely no reason that would make FAT32 seem like a reasonable or even useful choice. Fact is, the technical advantages of NTFS make FAT32 useless.

I'll try the floppies..thanks

No problem.

Win98 can format a drive larger than 32gB (which I believe is the FAT32 limit for XP, which is what I think you were getting at here). But again, why bother?
