recently i've gotten a geforce 6800, i'm using drivers 66.93 and no, it's not overclocked, and it's not overheating. I upgraded it from a geforce 2, and I already uninstalled the drivers from before it (I hope..). I play hl2 at high settings with reflect all. it plays fine, but there are lots of places in the game where it lags very badly. i'm talking, 10 fps. it's not a stuttering issue. and it happens when everything is idle. sometimes it's smooth, and it's beatiful. but then there will be these areas where it lags real bad, and it hardly looks like it should. i'm talking about, the hanger in the beach when you are about to burst out of the window. that place lags like a mofo if I look out to towards the beach, and this is a problem. I doubt it should, this is a $300 videocard! Doom 3 and farcry play like a dream, but why not hl2?

what should I do? change drivers? I already scanned for viruses/spyware/adware, and it was all clean. I barely have any programs running, and the game is already fully updated. I doubt i have to update my processer or ram, when a map is done loading it will jitter abit, or if a big explosion happens, it's smooth .but i'm talking about places where it hardly looks like it is hardware intensive. if I can spawn 6 imps, with everything turned up in doom 3, and it still playing smooth, how come hl2 lags when in half of the game where nothing is happening? Please help, this is seriously driving me away from the game.
