I tried taking it apart with screwdriver and these funny hard drive screwdrivers but I seem to have none that fit the really small ones or they require a different tool.
anyway I pryed it out of there and cnaped the leads on the electromagnet part. I put the two leads up to a 9 volt batttery and smoke filled the air.
The thing is is that I have two more DVDRs that don't work anymore. Would someone share some light on disection?
And yes I tried google.

You cannot power a LD directly off any battery without letting the magic smoke out.

Have you checked out www.laserpointerforums.com? Lots of good info over there including a section for beginners. :)

They are a good group of people to deal with and stand behind what they sell. I needed a laser with a certain criteria and they found one for me and at a price that was cheaper than most.
