I'm really fed up with XP so I want to downgrade back to 2k. When I put in the cd, the installation option is disabled, so I can't do it from within XP. When I boot from the cd, it creates a new installation under C:\WINNT. My XP installation is in C:\WINDOWS and I want to convert it to 2k instead of dual booting. How do I do that?

Boot from the W2K CD. Go to the screen where you can choose which partition to install W2K on. Here, delete all partitions that XP occupied, then re-create them for W2K and install it there. On the boot loader, you might still see the option for XP, in that case just go to the boot.ini file and remove it..Regards

Will I have to reinstall everything with this? I assume so, and that's what I am trying to get around.

You can't downgrade and save your settings and program registrations if that's what you want to do.
