I must have visited some site once and given out my email address when I shouldn't have, because I get so much spam now that I have stopped checking my email for fear of having to wade through 100+ messages per DAY of spam. I'm not interested in finding out how I got the spam or who is sending it to me, I just want to get rid of it and not get any more. What is the best way to go about doing this? I am running Windows2000 and Outlook Express.

Help. Please. :frown:

Guess you'll have to :)

BTW, does ANYONE know of a way to block an entire domain/server? Basically I would like to (in Eudora) block EVERYTHING that ever comes from whoever@msn.com

Everyone spoofs from msn, and I don't know anyone who uses it, so if I could just block every single msn.com email I would.

Outlook can filter on either username or domain name, I have blocked @msn.com as well, bonus is my mother is on MSN! =)

If anyone does know a good method of avoiding spam let us know.

http://www.mailexpire.com/ Use this place if I just need a one shot email address. I use spamcop.net to track down the spammer and get the sites shut down. Work at it hard enough and they will take you off the lists because you become a big pain in the ass :)

I have a method that has worked well for me; in the past two years I've only gotten 1 piece of spam in my box.

I have a personal address that I never give out on the net, and a hotmail account that I use for everything else. I don't mind the spam in the hotmail box, because I only check it for registration/receipts/etc.

The trouble is you'll get spam on hotmail and other big commercial servers even if you never use it. My personal address is the one my college gave me, but if you want a less-spammed address on the web, look for a lesser-known e-mail provider. I have an @usa.net account (www.amexmail.com) that is great and never recieves ads.

I have had a usa.net account for going on two years and the number of times I have received spam, I could count on one hand. They have a great service.

I thought this would brighten everyone's day regardless of whether or not you like spam:

Spam!

I thought there was a setting somewhere, where you could direct incoming e-mail to the trash and selete it, if for instance the e-mail you recieved is not from someone in your e-mail address book....

I suppose that would do it....

;)

[Edit]

In outlook express under Tools --> Message Rules --> Mail/Block Senders list you can set filters there.

;)

The tools in Outlook are just not sufficient enough to deal with spam. I get legtimate email from people all the time that are not in my email address book.

I just came up with a great system.

Have one email account for personal purposes, have one account for purchasing stuff on the net (cuz you know they send you junk email sometimes), and one account for signing up at other places (say you wanted to make a crappy lil freeservers web site, or for some newsletter, or whatever- just crappy stuff like that).

See, I got 0 spam emails EVER when I had my personal account...then I bought some stuff on the net and used that account...no big deal, didn't get many emails from them...then I signed up for something and accidentally used that account and I started getting like 1 email from them a day (made a filter though :)) and then I signed up for a freeservers site (for my friend) and used my account...got a lot from them too (2-3 emails a week- made a filter for them too!).

I really love the filters in Eudora! :)

i would recommend, once you get everything cleared up...

make a new account, and then if you have to use your e-mail, but don't wanna give your personal one... send it to Hotmail, or GO mail... that way.. all garbade goes there!@!!

You can use the netscape filters to send email that doesn't have your address (or name) on it to the Trash bin. This works since most spam isn't actually addressed to you.

Also I found one really good way to not get spam is to not *respond* to it, like those remove request things. I don't get nearly as much when I don't respond to it anymore, since they can't confirm my email address as valid.

always have a junk email for signing up to random stuff like a hotmail or something, otherwise in OutLook you can setup filters to get rid of spam, some ISP`s also let you setup filters and blocks at the isp level, personally i use TheBat email client, which lets you setup very sophisticated filters.
