You know like if you uncheck a program in msconfig startup tab and then you reboot only to find that its in there twice. then I try to uncheck the other entry but when I reboot its checked again.
This is very anoying. I looked all over the registry but couldnt find where to access the startup folder to delete the entries.
Does anyone know how to do this?

Its in a file in your C:\ directory (i think, i did this a while ago) i think it is boot.sys, or boot.SomeThingLikeThat, open it up in notepad, it should be pretty self explanatory, but just in case, make a backup of this file before you change it and reboot.

In msconfig, uncheck the programs you don't want to startup but also check the other tabs...autoexec.bat, system.ini, ect.
If that still doesn't do it then check the startup menu off your start button.
Last resort would be uninstalling the offending programs or doing a registry search, (Run/Run Services?) however these should be already listed in the msconfig startup tab...but I guess you never know.

In msconfig there are two of the same entries , so when i delete them or uncheck them one always comes back checked and the other unchecked so the service starts up. In the registry i searched for run, run services, run once, -run, startup, start, but couldnt find anything that had all of the entries listed unless they are in dwords or binary so I didnt recognize them. I managed to find one spot in the registry that had the basic startup items like power profile, scanreg, and some others, but It didnt have the programs listed that I want to get out of the startup.

try using tweak all or x-tek setup. I know that x-tek can remove an item completely instead of "uncheck them"

Very odd...you checked start/programs/startup?
autoexec/config.sys/system.ini ect.?

What programs are you trying to stop?

search for the "runservices" key, one word, no quotes. the run key will be above it. If there's anything in the runservices or run key, that you don't want to start up, just delete it. :)
