HI!
im thinking of starting my own Hardware site (just a local site - not competing with anandtech :) )
any way, I have a crew and all and I know HTML pretty well.
all I need is a forum and maybe some CGI scripts for a news system.

the problem - I dunnu anything about CGI
I need somthing that I could sorta Cut&Paste only to get things going
but it should be good - security, looks and functions way.
and free of charge.

is this possible ?

- again I dont know nothing about CGi - I guess I could learn as I know C and HTML pretty well - but right now I just need somthing to get going.

Thanx for the help!
I'll keep you updated!

You might want to start out with an EZboard or some other free host at first if you're really new at this, but there are several pl, cgi, dhtml free forum codes availible if your server supports the language. I use a UBB forum on my site, and it works out well, though I don't think they're offering a free version anymore.

YaBB would fit your needs perfectly. You can manage and administer the board even if it is running on a remote server. All you need to check is that your ISP supports CGI/PERL scripts. Full installation and administration instructions are included.'

Another free board to try if you don't like YaBB is Ikonboard, although I think YaBB is better.

Snitz Forums are completely free, powerful, and very easy to set up. It uses ASP, so you must either be using IIS or Apache with Chilisoft! ASP to host the forums.

I like Burning Board (woltlab.de). There are several hacks available for this forum software (wbbhacks.com). Everything is free. You will need PHP and MySQL. No, you do not need to be an expert with PHP or MySQL, just follow the instructions.

By the way, my site (signature) is created with this free software.
