I have the Yamaha HTR-5560 reciever and the SB Audigy. I want to hook my reciever up to my sound card through the digital output. I tried using a cable to hook it up to my reciever, but got no sound. My reciever is setup up correctly to recieve digital sound, and I set my sound card to output only digital audio. I still get no sound. Anyone have any ideas??? I use winamp v 2.80, but have not changed any settings in that program.

Plenty of ideas but would have to be there to experiment ...in any event it should work via the input soundcard /output receiver...or Visaversa...the digital on the soundcard check usually works in Windows via the CDROM..someone help the member ;)

Your setup seems fine, just make sure digital output is enabled on the mixer, not muted. I have the SBlive that I hooked up to my Denon receiver. If you play cds on you computer to send to receiver, make sure you have the 2 pin digital cable hooked up from you cdrom to sound card. Also I assume you're running a digital coax to your recever, I used a long 25 ft sub cable for mine, make sure whatever input you seleted for the sound from your computer to be assigned digital coax, not optical, unless you're running an optical cable that is.
Hope this helps

I have another Question........

I finally got it to work, but I am not sure If it is the best way to have it hooked up to my reciever. I ended up using a mini 1/8" jack that plugs into my Audigy card and on the other end of that cable it has a single rca jack, which plugs into the digital input on my reciever. Is this the best way to hook it up to my reciever? MATT, you said that you used a single rca sub cable, but how did you hook that into the 1/8" mini jack on your sound card????

Just an FYI....there is alot of good info on SB Live and Audigy cards at Live Center. Might find some helpful info in their forums there.

The Audigy, like the Live! is not really made for anything but gaming (despite claims otherwise). It'd digital out is stuck at 48khz 16bit (which it upsamples automatically) and it cannot sync to anything externally - perhaps your yamaha requires more flexibility from the source? If your yamaha has rca digital in, it should simply be a matter of hooking a well-shielded rca cable up between them.

out of curiosity - what do you use your card for? do you have a 5.1 sound system for your computer? if you're more interested in AUDIO (not fancy effects), then i suggest getting a real audio card (e.g., Terratec, M-Audio, Echo, etc.) and not a gaming card and this would greatly simplify your life, plus blow you away on the quality.

oh, don't forget to check all the mixer ins/outs/levels - Creative has a nasty habit of hiding info you need to figure out what the heck is going on. good luck.

Yes you connection is the best way, I had to use the rca to minijack as you have done and I just use the sub cable because it was long and cheap. Got it on clearance at Sears for 5 bucks.
Some people ask why would people hook it up to a receiver. I would say that most pc based speaker systems don't even come close to my 5.1 setup for my TV and music , I spent over almost 3 grand for the dam things. I mean I had the walls rumbling and almost shaking while playing some of the first person shooter games, I would say the most important aspect it being able to use my subwoofer in my home theater setup, which can go loud and tight with little distortion. Try it sometimes.
