how do I get my friggin CDrom to be quiet when I play a CD?

itunes is usually good about not making disc noise when it plays an audio CD, but I got a new computer and this is not true! It runs at full speed the full time there any data being read from the cd and makes a lot of rushing noise

i dont think you can slow down the cd rom though..but i know what you mean..some of them sound like a jet about to take off

Get CDSpeed and use it to downclock your CD drive to 1X....all that is needed to play a music CD. It will be nice and quiet.

My Plextor drive has some features to reduce the rotation speed when playing CD's and DVD's. I think some media players also have features that do that.
