I know how I'm supposed to get it off by unhooking the metal clip, but it seems almost impossible and I'm afraid of breaking something by applying to much force. Is there some sort of tool people use to get some leverage on the clip? Or any other suggestions?

I want to connect the L1 bridges, but i need to get the heat sink off first. :)

Thanks,

Adam

take mobo out. hold the chip part towards you. grab a pair of needle nose pliers. grab the clip part towards you near the top. bend it out away from the clip and up at the same time. it takes some effort. it should then pop out. i thought it might break but it doesn't. needs some force. good luck.

All Right!

With needle-nose pliers in one hand and a screwdriver in the other hand, I got it off.

The L1 Bridges have been connected with a nice little pencil I had laying around, and my first overclocking attempt has begun.

My little Duron 600 went up to 650 at first and is running at 700 at the moment. I'm just slowly testing it out.

When did I ever become such a hardware junky? :)

Thanks for your help,

Adam

If you're using the retail duron heatsink that has the sticky "pink goop" (technical term) on it, remove this stuff with some soft cloth and remove it well. then use some rubbing alcohol on it to get any excess off. let it dry. Then use some thermal paste on it. You should be able to make it go at least 800 to 850 with retail heatsink although it'll be a bit on the warm side.

I'm at 910 with retail heat sink and fan. Runs at about 44 celsius normally, and up to about 51 with full CPU usage. Not bad for a 600Mhz chip...
