How Do I Get My Chipset Cooler Off?

I bought a DFI LP UT 754 motherboard on hardforum, and it has a big chipset cooler, and i want to replace it, but it is stuck on there with as ceramique!!! anyone?

Ceramique isn't an adhesive, it is just really thick and sticky. Gently twist the cooler back and forth, it should come free.

You can also make it easier to pry off by running your comp for awhile or use a hairdryer to warm up and soften the ceramique.

heat up the heat sink with a lighter. Dont use a hair dryer because that can cause a static discharge and fry your board.

If you have a jet ligther, it only takes a few sec to heat the sink enough to twist off.

I would twist off first and see if thats at all possible, instead of prying off. You have more chances of ripping the die by prying then twisting.

I used to put video cards in the freezer to remove the glued on hs in the old days. Once nice and cold, I'd just twist the hs and it could come free. I never had any problems, but try it at your own risk.
