Just got Kazaa, but every time I start my computer up, it wants to run and connect to the internet. Its a pain, I havn't found anything in the options menu to keep from running at startup, and its not listed in my startup dir. I'm on W2k.
Thanks for any help

Tools>Option>User tab, clear the check from "Launch KaZaA Automatically".

Launch Kazaa automatically is not checked. I thought that would have been the obvious answer too, but it still runs at start-up.

Thanks

Check Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, and see if you can find Kazaa in there. If it's set to Automatic, set it to Disable. Hope this helps.

You can use msconfig.exe and uncheck it from the startup tab.

it's in a different place for different versions of Windows so just do a search for msconfig.exe.

When you reset it may tell you that you are in a diagnostic mode, but disregard this because you are not. Just check the "do not show this again" box.

Edit: sorry I didn't se you said Win2k. It is late and I am missing alot.

Run -> regedit ->
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run <---- there might be an entry for Kazaa there, if there is just delete it and it shouldn't run at startup (on your user area)

I also found a good program that allows you to change what automatically starts up in Win 2k like you can in Win 9x. It's called Startup CPL, if you want a copy and can't find it on the net, PM me and I'll see what I can do. It's very useful and eliminates the need for sifting through the registry.

Startup Control Panel is a nifty control panel applet that allows you
to control what programs run at system startup. I wrote it because
I was tired of digging through the registry all the time; I hope you
like it!"

Start -> Run... -> msconfig

Not sure whether this program comes delivered with Windows 2000 (I know it is available in 98 and XP), if it is you can use it to disable pretty much every program run at startup. It checks nearly all the possible locations: INIs, services and the various registry paths. It's a bit weird about having to restart to apply a setting, but it works.

Win 2K is different to XP and 9x because it's more business than home user, so they don't seem to make it quite as easy to use (stupid micro$oft), so msconfig doesn't work, which is why someone made a handy program so you have an equivelant in Win 2k

IMHO, the best way to deal with that is to get rid of Kazaa - a spyware and computer nightmare as well as a virus freeway.
