Yea, sorry not sure what its called but its usually a blue screen w/ options.

Might be CMOS or BIOS, something like that

Know who makes the BIOS/CMOS?

American Megatrends, Award, Phoenix, etc.

i wouldn't say you are ready to be making changes in the BIOS if you are making comments like "might be CMOS or BIOS, something like that"

We have some Toshibas at work and I think it is the F1 key, perhaps F2. Press those during initial startup, see what you get.

well i just want to go in there and tell it to boot directly to the cd.

My computer is wasted. I mean its really really screwed up and totally not working it is saying that some vga thing isn't installed or is corrupt.
So i want to go in and boot from the cd so i can fix it.

It asks me to stick in the win xp cd and press r to repair but when i do that it just reboots

Head on over to Toshiba's site and download the manual (or if you have the manual, read it). They seem to have pretty good support, including drivers for OS's that the lappie didn't come with, which is kinda cool :)

Toshiba Satellite BIOS entry is F1. Try holding ESC when you power up, then F1 as soon as it lights up.
