How do I get into safe mode in Win Me??

Hey everyone.

I recently installed Win Me on my friend's old Compaq laptop.Amazingly, Me was the ONLY OS I could get working properly (NT based OSes had hardware conflicts witht he modem, and 98 didn't have working drivers available). Pretty much the only hting she's done on it is surf the net and use MSN explorer. Now when it boots, it seems to be installing something once windows pops up (you know, where it says updating system with the little animted drum), and once it does get into windows, an error pops up saying that "there was an error in BROWSEUI.DLL. If you continue problems, reboot." So I hit the close button, and it seems to not reboot, but starts over where it installs something and updates something, and ends up at the same spot again....windows apparently loaded with the BOOTUI.DLL error. Can't get around it. My best guess is windows did some kind of auto update that needs to be removed. However, I can't get into control panel to remove anything, and I don't know how to get Me to boot into safe mode.

Any suggestions?

THanx,

hmm, just from memory & assuming it's like win98, when your at desktop, go to msconfig & under the advanced settings you should be able to tick an option for startup menu. reboot!

Why not just reinstall Windows ME?

That would be a better soloution than trying to fix the problem, which usually just causes more problems -- especially since you're dealing with a Microsoft OS.
