I asked in the networking forum, but I'm afraid it'll take a few years for anybody to answer 😛

I just went out and bought a D-Link switch, and am trying to get things set up with it.. What do I need to do? I can't even get basic LAN sharing working, he can't see my computer, and I can't see his.. let alone get it to share the internet.. What am I missing? I've got the DSL modem plugged into Uplink, and a cable running from both his and my computers into the switch.. the link lights are on..

Help! 🙂

first eli, do you have more than one ip address? if not then you either need to have a cable/dsl router, or you need to get you comp hook up with a second network card.

The two nics in your PC will serve has the router part.\

nic #1 will connect to the net.
nic #2 will connect to the switch.

What os is on your PC? If it is win2k you can turn on internet connection sharing for win2k. The connection that conects to the internet it the one you want to turn ICS on.

The addition computers will connect to the switch and be set has dhcp.

You can also download ICs software such has sygate and wingate,

Well, I had already had the network setup with the 2 NICs, just without the hub. I guess there's no way to get it to work with the hub, with only 1 NIC in each system, so I'm just going to take the switch back and get a Cable/DSL router..

Which one is the best? Linksys? Netgear?

Well I am sure that there will be alot of debate about which is best.
I have a Linksys and have had no problems with it, works like a dream and was easy to configure. I have heard that setting up the Linksys is easier than the Netgear set up, but I am sure that a Netgear user will disagree.
