how do i get CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up task manager? and other lil pet peeves...

It brings up the "windows security" screen with lock computer, log off, shutdown, change password, task manager, and cancel; instead of task manager. How do i get it to automatically startup task manager when I press those 3 buttons?

Also, when I push shutdown, it gives me a popup w/ a drop down box to select my shutdown option, how do I get it to display the colorful 3 buttons (log off, turn off, and restart buttons)?

One last thing, on the start menu, I set the notepad shortcut keys to CTRL + F12 to bring up the notepad. It doesnt work at all, what is wrong?

AFAIK you cannot change the dialog that comes up when you press ctrl+alt+del. However there may be some way to change it in the registry that I have not heard of.

To get it to display the three buttons you probably need to enable the WinXP desktop settings. They probably won't show up if you set it to look like Win2K.

As for your shortcut not working, I haven't used that method of setting shortcuts in a long time. I customized the Hotkeys on the top of my MS Natural keyboard for shortcuts to applications.

well the CTRL+ALT+DEL for task manager thing, it originally brought up the task manager, and i dont know what i did to cause it ot bring up the other screen now. 🙁

where are the winXP desktop settings located at?

for the shortcut thing, i know it can work because i had it working just fine the first time ive had XP installed... now right after a fresh reinstall its not working! 🙁

I'm afraid I can't offer too much help on the topic, being a Win2K user.

Try right-clicking on the taskbar or Start button, and checking on the properties pop-up dialog. If you can't find the setting to change the XP desktop, try using TweakXP. The setting will be in there somewhere. It may also be a setting in the Control Panel.

As for your ctr+alt+del probs, it could possibly be related to the above problem or it could be a change from SP1

CONTROL + SHIFT + ESCAPE

have fun......

I manage to use mirc program without a mouse 🙂 it took me a few minutes to find out all the secret shortcuts..😉
🙂😉

now that you mention it, it did occur around the time i installed SP1. Is it something that happened to the rest of you when you installed SP1?
